India codifies plant-based tax relief

Finance Minister announces huge tax reductions on plant-based analogues.

India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman last week announced a reduction of the nation’s Goods and Services Tax Rates on plant-based meat and dairy analogues, from between 12% and 18% down to just 5%. 

This rate cut puts alt-meat products on level playing field with conventional proteins, which are also taxed at 5%.
