EU labeling debate lives on

The European Parliament Agriculture Committee on Monday voted to ban the use of “meaty” terms on plant-based meat analogue and cell cultivated meat products. 

The motion, which was adopted 33 votes to 10, was put forth to “strengthen the position of farmers in the food supply chain.” Led by French Member of Parliament Céline Imart, the motion reserves specific words — including burger, sausage and steak — “exclusively for the edible parts of animals.”
